Work-required Clothing

Some employees are required to wear clothing specific to their job duties. In these situations, uniforms, protective clothing, and equipment are supplied, or employees are reimbursed for purchasing the items themselves.

Each bargaining unit has specific provisions.

Safety Footwear

Regular PEA and BCGEU Environmental, Technical, and Operational employees required to wear safety footwear will be reimbursed for receipts that show payment for:

• safety-toe footwear (up to $133.50 for every two years)
• caulk boots (up to $185.00 for every two years)

BCGEU Retail Stores & Warehouse employees required to wear safety-toed footwear will be reimbursed every two years for receipts:

• Regular employees and auxiliaries who have worked 1827 hours in a 15-month period will be reimbursed up to $131.
• Auxiliary employees who have worked in excess of 210 hours will be reimbursed up to $65.50.

*NOTE* Reimbursement may be received only once every two calendar years. Employees are not eligible to receive a claim until they have gone one full calendar year without being reimbursed.

Examples:

• If you received reimbursement for safety footwear in 2012 at the old rate, you must wait one calendar year before being eligible to submit a reimbursement at the new rate. The earliest date you can apply for reimbursement for new safety footwear is January 1, 2014.

• New employees who purchase safety footwear in 2012 can apply immediately for reimbursement at the new biennial rate. You are not eligible for further reimbursement for one calendar year and the earliest date you can submit a reimbursement for new safety footwear is January 1, 2014.

Maintaining Work Clothing

An allowance of $26.50 per month is paid to employees responsible for cleaning the washable clothing provided.

Worn-out clothing is replaced by returning the used items to indicate that replacement is necessary.

If necessary, the cost of tailoring clothing is covered for BCGEU Retail Stores & Warehouse employees. Tailoring may include:

• hemming pants to the proper length
• taking in/letting out seams, or
• adjusting sleeve length
