Educational opportunities from pre-school through adulthood help improve outcomes for Indigenous learners in B.C. These opportunities include early childhood education, Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreements, the Aboriginal Post-Secondary Strategy, Labour Market Agreements, and employment and trades training across sectors.

The Province provides many specialized programs and services to support Indigenous students and help them succeed in post-secondary education. This includes new courses and curriculum, events, student services and culturally welcoming Gathering Places on public institution campuses.

Support for education and skills training includes

  • Kindergarten to grade 12 curriculum, special needs and cultural education training for teachers
  • First Nations' community school development and support
  • Urban Indigenous Peoples education and training support
  • Indigenous people's post-secondary and advanced education support
  • Indigenous people's career planning and development

B.C.'s Skills for Jobs Blueprint

Initiatives, programs and services are being developed to support Indigenous people through B.C.'s Skills for Jobs Blueprint.

The Blueprint includes special focus on

  • Indigenous youth worker support networks
  • Funding for community-based skills training
  • Engaging with Indigenous youth
  • Supporting skills training for urban Indigenous people through the Off-Reserve Aboriginal Action Plan
  • Engaging Indigenous people in natural resource sector opportunities

The B.C. government coordinates with agencies and organizations to help meet goals set out in B.C.'s Skills for Jobs Blueprint.

An Inventory of Indigenous Skills Training Programs has been developed in response to a request from Indigenous communities in B.C. The programs highlighted in the inventory are delivered by the provincial and federal governments, and some Indigenous and industry organizations.
