The Ministry of Education manages an assessment program that systematically gathers information from a variety of sources to determine how successfully B.C. students are achieving the knowledge and skills described in the provincial curriculum.
B.C. students participate in three types of large-scale assessment:
The Foundation Skills Assessment is administered annually to all B.C. students in grades 4 and 7 to assess basic skills in reading, writing and numeracy.
Provincial examinations of select courses in Grade 10, 11 and 12 certify the performance of B.C. students graduating from Grade 12.
National and international assessments measure reading, math and science skills of B.C. students. Various age ranges participate and student achievement levels are compared with other provinces or countries.
