Minister's Advisory Council on Indigenous Women (MACIW)

The Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation created MACIW in June 2011 to provide advice to the Government of British Columbia on how to improve the quality of life of Indigenous women across BC.

MACIW is comprised of up to 10 members and provides advice to government on how to improve the quality of life for Indigenous women in British Columbia by:

  • Advocating for the well-being of Indigenous women
  • Providing advice and support to the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, and
  • Offering guidance and direction that is rooted in Indigenous worldviews.

MACIW is guided by a Terms of Reference (Updated 2022) and Standards of Ethical Conduct and reports to government through the Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. MACIW meets quarterly, and additionally as determined by the chair or the minister, and at least twice a year with the minister.
