An audit is an examination of your business’ financial records to ensure that you are collecting, remitting and paying tax that is due, and to identify any areas where you may be doing this incorrectly.
The Ministry of Finance conducts audits to identify and collect unpaid provincial revenue.
The PST returned on April 1, 2013. The ministry may conduct audits under the new Provincial Sales Tax Act any time after that date.
If you operate a business in B.C., you can sign up for a ministry PST Specialist to review your accounting and reporting systems to ensure your systems are properly set up to comply with the provincial sales tax laws. The program is called PSTEP and it replaces the one-on-one consultations with a PST Specialist.
Although there are still some social service tax audits in progress at this time, the ministry is in the process of winding down audits under the Social Service Tax Act.
