Highway 97 from Highway 33 to Edwards Road

The project includes urban widening from four to six lanes of Highway 97 in Kelowna from Highway 33 to Edwards Road, as well as intersection and access improvements. The project encompasses:

  • Widening Highway 97 to six lanes (4.5 km)
  • Upgrades to major intersections (Leathead, McCurdy, Findlay/Hollywood and Sexsmith Roads)
  • Realignment of Rutland Road to reduce congestion and increase separation between Highway 97 and Rutland Road


Construction started in April 2016

Project Benefits

  • Better intersection configuration (left turn bays and deceleration lanes)
  • Reduce congestion and delays


  • Realignment of Finns Road completed in November 2015
  • Main construction contract was awarded to Emil Anderson Construction in March 2016
  • Construction started in April 2016
  • Anticipate construction completion by fall 2017
