Intervention for sexually motivated offences

Last updated on June 14, 2021

BC Corrections partners with the Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission to provide programming in community and custody settings for individuals who have been sentenced for sexually motivated offences.

An initial treatment program is delivered by Forensic Psychiatric Services and a follow-up maintenance program is delivered by trained probation officers to support the individual to manage their behaviour and retain the skills learned through the treatment.

Psychologists treating an individual work closely with the probation officer to manage the individual’s risk and needs.

Probation officers receive specialized training to assess and manage individuals under their supervision for sexually motivated offences, with the goal of reducing the risk of reoffending through effective case management.

Sex Offender Registry

The Sex Offender Information Registration Act requires individuals convicted of designated sex offences to register with the police. The purpose of the act is to help police prevent and investigate sex-related crimes.
