2010 Historical Mountain Pine Beetle Interior Pricing Policy Changes

Last updated on June 26, 2018

In 2010 the Ministry responded to the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic with two changes to the Interior Market Pricing System (MPS)

  • a shift to cruise-based billing using a single stumpage rate for all the merchantable timber
  • and a move to MPS ‘A’, where the stand value is determined directly from equations based on 5 years of competitive timber auction data rather than the old MPS ‘B’ pricing methodology

Even though the MPS epidemic has since passed, there is still the need periodically for cruise-based billing of Mountain Pine Beetle damaged timber. MPS ‘A’ is the current MPS system that has been in use in the Interior since July 1, 2010.
