Re: Insulated Copper Pipe, Sentence 3.1.4.5.(7), Article 6.2.9.4. & B.C. Plumbing Code

With reference to your letter of January 22, 1988, requesting approval of Aeneus insulated copper pipe. Two issues are involved, approval of the insulation, and approval of the actual pipe.

We are unable to deal with the insulation on a general basis, requirements in the Code vary according to the location and usage; so while we see no objection, it will be necessary for you to deal with the specific circumstances of a particular use. Sentence 3.1.4.5.(7) and Article 6.2.9.4. are examples of Code requirements.

With respect to the copper pipe, the B.C. Plumbing Code requires that copper pipe conform to ASTM B42, and copper tube to ASTM B88 or B306. From your information B88 appears to be the standard involved with the proposed type of use. For this purpose there is nothing to support approval of your material; it is manufactured to an Italian standard, which may, or may not be adequate for conformance with our Code. Under the circumstances we suggest that you have the material tested for compliance with the referenced standards, by a laboratory accredited for plumbing testing, with periodical monitoring.
