Through the provincial housing strategy, Housing Matters BC, the BC government has made considerable progress in addressing homelessness in BC communities. In partnership with federal and local governments, and community agencies, the BC government has invested over $2.5 billion into housing programs and initiatives.
In February 2014 the BC government updated the provincial housing strategy, Housing Matters BC. The updated strategy directs government to continue providing and enhancing private market rental assistance through direct financial aid to seniors, and low to moderate income working families with children.
Class 3, Supportive Housing provides property tax relief for non-profit societies to help address housing challenges for our most vulnerable British Columbians. Properties designated under the supportive housing property class are assessed at $2.00 resulting in property taxes reduced to a nominal amount.
