Appointment and Remuneration

The Board

The Mental Health Review Board consists of a chair and 63 members. The chair is the general administrator of the board.

The Chair

The chair holds a full-time position and is appointed by the Minister of Health. The chair is not an employee of the public service. Remuneration of the chair is set by Ministerial Order and Treasury Board Directive 1/10.

Chair's initial term and reappointment (Administrative Tribunals Act, section 2):

  1. The chair of an administrative tribunal may be appointed by the appointing authority, after a merit based process, to hold office for an initial term of 3 to 5 years.
  2. A member may be reappointed by the appointing authority as the chair of an administrative tribunal for additional terms of up to 5 years.

Part-time Members

The Minister of Health appoints all part-time members for a specified term. Such appointees are not employees of the public service.

Member's initial term and reappointment (Administrative Tribunals Act, section 3):

  1. A member, other than the chair, may be appointed by the appointing authority, after a merit based process and consultation with the chair, to hold office for an initial term of 2 to 4 years.
  2. A member may be reappointed by the appointing authority as a member of the administrative tribunal for additional terms of up to 5 years.

Remuneration

Remuneration of the chair and members is set by Ministerial Order and Treasury Board Directive 2/11 (PDF 591K).
