Records Schedules for Special Categories of Records

Special schedules cover broad categories of records existing in most government ministries and agencies that cannot be categorized within other types of records schedules. These include: special types of creators (e.g., executive records, Commissions of Inquiry), special media (e.g., maps, motion picture film, blueprints), and unique circumstances (e.g., Y2K). Many of the records covered by special schedules are temporary, transitory or obsolete (e.g., transitory records, redundant source records) and can be routinely destroyed. However other records such as Executive and Commission of Inquiry records have long term value even after they have become superseded or obsolete. These types of records will be selectively retained by the government archives.
