United States Relations

Last updated on November 19, 2019

The United States (U.S.) is B.C.'s most important international partner, with close historic, cultural, geographic and economic ties. We work across government with B.C. stakeholders, the federal government and U.S. federal and state agencies to:

  • Build regional consensus and understanding on actions that increase economic opportunities for B.C., such as keeping the Canada-U.S. border open for legitimate trade and tourism, sustainable resource management, softwood lumber trade, and increasing jobs in the clean energy and green technologies sectors
  • Leverage shared goals and joint leadership with the states of California, Oregon and Washington to build regional, national and global support for action on climate change and clean energy
  • Facilitate the management of transboundary environmental and resource management concerns consistent with B.C.'s high environmental standards
