BC Broadband Satellite Initiative
People who live in remote communities can get high-speed Internet through satellite service. The BC Broadband Satellite Initiative (BCBSI) helps offset the one-time satellite installation fee for residents in areas of B.C. where there are no other options.
The BC Broadband Satellite Initiative is one of the ways in which we work to expand connectivity in B.C. The B.C. government is making funds of up to $2 million available to contribute towards the one-time satellite installation fee in locales that currently, and for the foreseeable future, have no other high-speed Internet solutions.
To be eligible for the BCBSI, customers must have no access or rely on older dial up Internet connections. Currently, residents may qualify for up to a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of installation to a maximum of $350 to help make installing a new satellite broadband connection from Xplornet Communications Inc. more affordable.
We selected Xplornet Communication Inc. through a fair and competitive procurement process to provide satellite service. Xplornet's satellites are capable of broadband speeds and widespread coverage of B.C.
More information about the program is available through Xplornet. Please contact Xplornet and they will determine eligibility and further details. Xplornet may be reached at 1‐855‐494‐1079 or satelliteBC@xplornet.com.
