Minister's Advisory Council on Aboriginal Women (MACAW)
The Minister's Advisory Council on Aboriginal Women (MACAW) was established in 2011 following the Collaboration to End Violence: National Aboriginal Women’s Forum, which was co-hosted by the Province of B.C. and the Native Women’s Association of Canada.
MACAW is comprised of up to 10 members and provides advice to government on how to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal women in British Columbia by:
- Advocating for the well-being of Aboriginal women
- Providing advice and support to the Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, and
- Offering guidance and direction that is rooted in Aboriginal worldviews.
MACAW is guided by a Terms of Reference and Standards of Ethical Conduct and reports to government through the Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation. MACAW meets quarterly, and additionally as determined by the chair or the minister, and at least twice a year with the minister.
