Respite

Last updated on December 8, 2017

Respite means different things to different people. Respite can be simply time to rest, an outing with friends, an opportunity to refresh or take part in a pleasurable pastime. It may mean taking a break on a planned or periodic basis.

For caregivers, respite relieves stress and allows them time to maintain balance in their lives.

Many opportunities for formal respite services exist in communities across B.C., such as: adult day programs, respite hotels, respite care in residential care facilities, "in home" services, and hospice palliative care.
