Even though foster families receive ongoing support from a care team, there are additional programs  that can be of assistance.

If you've been approved to be a foster caregiver in B.C. we encourage you to take a moment and review the following information on monthly maintenance payment, education, and insurance.

Types of Family Care Homes & Payment

Foster families receive a monthly maintenance payment that covers the costs of caring for a child. Providing foster care is not a job – foster caregivers are not expected to give up their employment in order to care for children.

Children's needs range from reasonably straightforward to very complex, which requires different types of foster care.

Foster Care Education

All foster caregivers need to complete the BC Foster Care Education Program within two years of becoming approved. This specialized training is free of charge and takes about 53 hours to complete.
