Natural Resource Policy & Legislation
Natural resources in B.C. are managed by laws that:
- Control activities to ensure sustainability
- Protect the environment and human health and safety
The approach used for legislation typically follows this model:
- Directional information provides guidance for operations and activities
- Spatial definitions identify designated areas
Compliance & Enforcement
Assuring compliance with natural resource laws and taking appropriate enforcement action when necessary, is a responsibility shared by all natural resource ministries and their business areas.
Leadership for compliance and enforcement is a role taken on by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations' Natural Resource Officers and the Ministry of Environment’s Conservation Officers.
