Industrial Facility GHG Emissions

The Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulation requires that industrial facilities with BC operations emitting 10,000 tonnes or more of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per year must report their emissions to government annually.

The annual industrial GHG emission report summaries:

  • inform the public about significant sources of emissions
  • enable industry to manage emissions
  • inform policy and actions to reduce B.C. emissions

2015 Reporting Highlights

Reporting for the 2015 year follows requirements of the Reporting Regulation (272/2009), which was in effect until December 31, 2015.

  • Total industrial GHG emissions from all reporting operations in 2015, excluding electricity import operations, were 19.4 million tonnes of CO2e (Mt CO2e)
  • 106 companies reported in 2015, with 130 reporting operations in B.C.
  • These operations represent approximately 31% (19.4 Mt CO2e) of total provincial emissions of 62.7 Mt reported in the latest BC Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tables
