Monitoring Water Quality

The Ministry of Environment conducts water quality monitoring of freshwater and marine water through numerous programs to evaluate the condition of waterbodies in B.C.

Trend and Impact Monitoring

Trend monitoring refers to long-term monitoring of a water body and is used to detect changes in water quality over time. Impact assessment monitoring measures the effects on water quality from a particular project or natural event. The Provincial Biomonitoring Program and Monitoring and Stewardship Program both monitor water quality in B.C.

There are many joint provincial and federal water quality monitoring sites across B.C.
