Kindergarten to 12 Transportation Service Delivery Project

The purpose of the transportation project is to identify potential opportunities for cost saving and administrative efficiencies related to school transportation. A Transportation Working Group consisting of School District Transportation Managers, Secretary Treasurers and a Superintendent was formed to help identify and develop potential opportunities and ultimately recommend solutions to government for implementation.

Transportation data was collected from school districts in the fall of 2015. Based on an analysis of this data, the following areas are currently being explored:

  • Procurement: new procurement (e.g. fuel, maintenance parts) and on-boarding with existing arrangements (e.g. tire discount programs, white fleet)
  • Vehicle insurance
  • Bus route optimization (e.g. for contracted and in-house services)
  • Centre of Excellence to gather knowledge and expertise, support bus route optimization and training opportunities
  • Collaborative partnerships to share sites and services
