Trades Equivalency

Adult students can apply for credit towards graduation based on the trades training they’ve completed in order to earn a Red Seal Certificate (or equivalent).

District personnel should use the table below to help evaluate and assign appropriate equivalency credits for documented coursework and work experience for adult students. Reviewing the policy on this topic may also be helpful:

Credit recognition: A prior learning assessment (PLA) can be used to grant credits towards graduation. Districts can charge a PLA fee to students for each course recognized. Credit recognition (including PLAs) is not eligible for funding – find out more about course funding eligibility:

For the Red Seal trades listed below, a formal prior learning assessment, conducted by the school district, may result in the recognition of some of the following K-12 courses:
