Issue 17-80: Manufacturing Sales

July 25, 2017

There was a 1.8% rise (seasonally adjusted) in sales by B.C. manufacturers in May, with growth in sales of both durable goods (+1.7%) and non-durable goods (+2.0%). Most of the growth in durables was from a 40.5% surge in sales of transportation equipment, which more than offset large declines in shipments of several other durable categories, including computer and electronic products (-9.7%) and primary metal products (-2.4%).

Across Canada, sales climbed 1.1% with transportation equipment once again leading the way (+4.2%). Sales were up in six provinces, with Nova Scotia (+3.7%) and Ontario (+2.6%) recording the largest increases.
