Issue 17-70: Bankruptcies

The number of bankruptcies registered by B.C. businesses (-16.7%) and consumers (-10.2%) dropped in January of 2017 from the same period a year prior.

The number of Canadian bankruptcies filed by businesses was down (-18.4%) over the same period, with approximately half being in the construction, retail trade and accommodation and food services sectors. Meanwhile, nation-wide consumer bankruptcies were also slightly lower (-2.2%).
