Issue 17-13: Manufacturing Sales

January 19, 2017

Manufacturing sales in B.C. climbed 2.4% (seasonally adjusted) in November. Sales of manufactured food products were higher for a seventh straight month (+1.3%), helping to drive total receipts for non-durables 1.0% higher. Meanwhile, widespread sales boosts, including notable increases in the transportation (+3.4%), wood (+4.2%) and primary metal (+8.7%) sectors, resulted in a 3.5% jump in the value of durable goods shipped.

Nationally, sales increased (+1.5%) for a fourth consecutive month to reach $51.8 billion. Sales of primary metal products jumped 9.1%, one of the main reasons for the increase in total Canadian shipments.
