The number of bankruptcies registered by B.C. consumers (-10.9%) dropped in February of 2016 from the same period a year prior, while the number of business bankruptcies were up (+10.0%). The number of Canadian bankruptcies filed was up 6.3% compared to February 2015.

2015 in Review

In 2015, there were 5,837 bankruptcies filed in B.C., substantially fewer (-10.8%) than in 2014. Both consumer (-10.4%) and business (-23.0%) bankruptcies were lower. The decline in number of business bankruptcies filed in 2015 was widespread, with decreases recorded in most industries.
