Issue 16-33: Investment Income

There were 1.2 million taxfilers in British Columbia who reported investment income in 2014, an increase of 1.4% over the total in 2013. Those who reported investment income represented 35% of taxfilers. Investment income totalled $11.0 billion in 2014, down 8.8% over the value in 2013.

Nationally, the number of taxfilers reporting investment income edged up (+0.4%) in 2014, with five provinces recording increases. The value of investment income also crept higher (+0.4%) in 2014 to $68.3 billion, primarily due to higher values in Alberta and Quebec. The national median value of investment income was $620, with B.C. and Alberta reporting the highest median values in the country ($770 and $800, respectively).
