Issue 16-106: Bankruptcies

The number of consumer bankruptcies in the province was slightly higher in March (+0.4%) over the same month last year. There were 486 bankruptcies in March, compared to 484 in March 2015. B.C.’s increase was less substantial than the national average (+1.2%).

Meanwhile, business bankruptcies in the province were up 83.3% compared to March 2015. The number of Canadian businesses filing bankruptcy papers decreased 5.2% from twelve months earlier. In total, 293 businesses in Canada, including 11 in B.C., officially folded in March.
